Common Pre-Arrival Information (Resident Courses)

Welcome to the Army Force Management School (AFMS)

This guide provides essential information to help you prepare for your upcoming resident course at Fort Belvoir, VA. Please review the following requirements and recommendations carefully.

1. Privacy Act Statement

In accordance with AR 350-1, AFMS collects and maintains personal information for in-processing, academic records, and the student database. This information is used by the Administrative Team, Registrar, and Leadership to manage student enrollment and support. Disclosure of this information is voluntary; however, failure to provide it may prevent your enrollment and participation in the course.

2. Pre-Course Requirements

  • Update Personal Information: All military students must ensure their personal information in the Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS) and the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) is current. Please verify your full name, rank, DOD ID#, unit, and Army email address.
  • Learning Management System (LMS): AFMS uses https://www.afmslearn.net (powered by Moodle) as its LMS. Accounts are created for all students enrolled via ATRRS, and login information will be emailed approximately two weeks before the course start date.
  • Cyber Awareness Training: All students must provide a copy of their current Cyber Awareness Training Certificate. The certificate can be downloaded from the Army CIO/G-6 website and must be uploaded to your student records in https://www.afmslearn.net.
  • 3. In-Processing

    In-processing takes place on the first Monday of your course from 0730 to 0800 hours in the front lobby of Building 247, Humphrey’s Hall, 5500 21st Street, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-5923. Class begins promptly at 0800 hours.

    4. Security Clearance Requirements

  • Courses requiring a SECRET security clearance: How the Army Runs (HTARC); Synchronization Staff Officer Course (SSOC); Functional Area 50 Qualification Course (FA50QC); Force Integration Course for Senior Leaders (FICSL).
  • Security Clearance requirements: The Defense Information Security System (DISS) is the Army system of record for security clearance eligibility and access. Attendees MUST have an ACTIVE SECRET security clearance prior to attending the course. Have your security manager submit a Visit Authorization Request (VAR) through DISS using AFMS SMO code W0Z2AA6B, attention Mr. Alberto Cadiz, (703) 805-2878 or email: alberto.cadiz.civ@army.mil. The Visits Access Level is SECRET. The Visit Name should be the Course Name, Class #, and Last Name (Example: SSOC, 001-26, Smith). Failure to obtain security clearance verification for eligibility and access, may result in not meeting the graduation requirements.
  • 5. Lodging and Travel

    Lodging information applies to all students attending in a Temporary Duty (TDY) status from outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

  • On-post Lodging: Students must arrange for on-post lodging at the Fort Belvoir Billeting Office (Knadle Hall) by contacting Savann Sing, Operations Manager, at savann.sing@ihg.com or (703) 704-8600. On-post lodging is the first priority. (See FA50 course tab)
  • Per Diem: AFMS is not responsible for per diem. All lodging and per diem authorizations are the responsibility of the sending command.
  • Dining: A dining facility is not available at Fort Belvoir.
  • 6. Installation & Local Information

  • Force Protection (FPCON) and Health Protection (HPCON): For both FPCON and HPCON, please visit the Fort Belvoir website https://home.army.mil/belvoir/index.php
  • Inclement Weather: AFMS follows the operational status of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the Fort Belvoir area. Status updates are announced over local radio and television stations.
  • Privately Owned Weapons (POWs): It is recommended you do not bring POWs. All weapons must be registered with the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) and will be stored in an arms room. Storing weapons in a privately owned vehicle is prohibited. https://home.army.mil/belvoir/about/Garrison/DES
  • Recommended Visits: For resident courses, Students are encouraged to visit the National Museum of the United States Army on weekends. Free, timed-entry tickets are required and can be reserved at https://www.thenmusa.org . There are also a variety of museums to enhance your visit and learning experience.
  • 7. General Course Information

  • Computers: Students will be assigned an AFMS computer for class time work only. AFMS classrooms, by direction of the Ft. Belvoir Regional Network Enterprise Center (RNEC), only allow Army Unified Directory Services (AUDS)-configured government issued laptops on the network. All AFMS computers are AUDS-configured. Students will be assigned an AFMS laptop unless the student wishes to use their government-issued AUDS-verified computer. To verify AUDS status, search for Company Portal on your device—if it is not installed, the laptop is not on AUDS. If unsure, contact your IT team. Personal computers are prohibited in the classroom due to network security protocols. You will be able to access Moodle via commercial internet at your hotel or residence with your personal or unit issued government computer.

    Height/Weight Screening: Administered during the first week of class.
    Finance Info: To help ensure TDY-enroute students receive uninterrupted pay during HTARC and FA50QC for those attending, we request you provide the following documents to the school by emailing them to LMS_Admin@army.mil and by bringing a copy with you when you arrive: a copy of your orders, a completed DD Form 1610, and your approved IPPS-A absence request(s). You will be informed during in-processing/welcome about any additional steps to update your status with Finance and DFAS.
    Academic Reports: DA Form 1059 issued upon successful completion.

    This guide provides essential information to help you prepare for your upcoming virtual course. Please review the following requirements thoroughly.

    1. Privacy Act Statement

    In accordance with AR 350-1, AFMS collects and maintains personal information for in-processing, academic records, and the student database. This information is used by the Administrative Team, Registrar, and Leadership to manage student enrollment and support. Disclosure of this information is voluntary; however, failure to provide it may prevent your enrollment and participation in the course.

    2. Pre-Course Requirements

  • Update Personal Information: All military students must verify that their full name, rank, DOD ID#, unit, and Army email address are current in the Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS) and the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).
  • Learning Management System (LMS): Our courses use https://www.afmslearn.net (powered by Moodle) as the primary LMS. Accounts are automatically created for students enrolled via ATRRS, and you will receive login credentials via email approximately two weeks before your class starts.
  • Digital Platform: Virtual instruction is delivered via ARMY365 Microsoft Teams. To ensure full access and seamless participation, students may need to enroll in the Army's Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program (Hypori Halo) and register for the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). Please see your course-specific instructions for detailed requirements. Additionally, some systems require CAC enabled login and require a government network for access.
  • Cyber Awareness Training: All students must provide a copy of their current Cyber Awareness Training Certificate. The certificate can be downloaded from the Army CIO/G-6 website and must be uploaded to your student records on https://www.afmslearn.net.

  • Health and Force Protection: Students should follow the guidance of their local military command for Health Protection (HPCON) and Force Protection (FPCON) conditions.     ARNG Force Management Course (ARNG FMC)  System Registration: Requires FMSWeb and RCASWeb accounts; both systems will be utilized in the course. RCASWeb requires access to a Guard Network; students are encouraged to ensure they will have access to the system prior to the start of the course. If a student cannot get and maintain access to RCAS, please contact your course director.
